Interview : Kebu !!

- Since how long have you been composing?

-- I have been composing since I was a child, basically. Me and my cousin used to record many cassettes containing our own tunes with me on a toy keyboard and my cousin playing drums on cardboards. In the beginning we just used existing songs and made our own lyrics, but later on we started doing our own songs as well.

 - How did you learn to compose ? Studying music ? Hight school of music ?…

--I've learned to compose just by doing it. I don't think there is any other way of learning it. Of course you can study the rules of certain musical styles, but other than that I think you can only learn by composing.

- Who inspired you, wich are your influences ?

-- I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, but for the music I do as Kebu my main influences are Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield and Vangelis. But I also listen to modern trance.

- What are your instruments in your set ? Which is your favorite instruments and why ?

-- I have about 30 synths in my studio and 17 that I bring on tour. It's difficult to pick a favourite, but one favourite is certainly the Korg Mono/Poly, because it has a strong, organic tone and is very flexible. Also, it is clearly laid out and easy to learn.

- How do you compose ? Inspiration ?

-- Sometimes the inspiration comes by just playing an instrument, other times it can come just anywhere. I get often ideas just before I fall asleep. Then I need to quickly record it, otherwise I forget it the next day (or the next minute). So I have a lot of strange short clips on my phone where I sing badly some rhythm or melody or describe with words the structure of a part of a song idea.

- How many album did you released ?

-- Two so far. "To Jupiter and Back" in 2012 and "Perplexagon" in 2016.

- Next album ?

-- My next album will be released in spring 2019, if all goes according to plan.

- What is your dream for your musics ?

-- My dream is to be able to do my own music as a full-time job. Actually, I have been doing this now since January 2017 as a full-time job, and I hope I will be able to continue to do so in the future.
